  What the Pros Wear!

Pam Zaitz is the founder, president and lead designer of SHE Safari women’s hunting and outdoor apparel.  Introduced to the outdoors by her husband Brian almost 18 years ago, Pam now shares her passion for hunting and conservation with her entire family, including sons Parker and McLane.  After 15 years of wearing men’s and youth clothing on her hunting trips and with an impending trip to Tanzania and Zimbabwe, she decided it was time for women to have apparel that actually fit and performed like it should, all the while keeping feminine style and tailoring. Now a successful business woman, devoted wife and mother of two, she is able to combine her love for her faith, family and the outdoors full time.

Pam has hunted small to large game from Texas to Tanzania and continues to explore opportunities throughout the world to grow her outdoor experiences.  Over the years Pam hunt ed primarily with a rifle but in 2006 took up the challenge of bow hunting, harvesting her first animal.  Fueled by the excitement of that experience, she now has hunts planned throughout the world with both rifle and archery equipment.

Pam never stops designing the next in women’s outdoor apparel.  By being active in the outdoor industry and blessed with the ability to hunt different regions, she keeps her design wheels in tune.  She believes there is always another design that women deserve and want just around the corner.  Pam says, “My goal is to get more women involved in the outdoors with their families and what a better way than to make sure women everywhere are comfortable and feel confident in the field. I just hope I can play a small part in families enjoying all that God has created.” back to names...

Kim Rhode-

SHE Safari, maker of women’s outdoor apparel, is proud to announce three-time Olympic Medalist, Kim Rhode as their newest national spokesperson. In addition, SHE Safari will create a new line of Kim Rhode shooting apparel.

“We are pleased and honored to have Kim on our team,” stated SHE Safari owners Pam and Brian Zaitz. “Kim will be an excellent representative and a wealth of knowledge for our company and the new line of clothing designed specifically for women shooters. We have a lot of confidence Kim’s input and guidance, along with our designs, will ultimately be the finest in women’s technical shooting apparel.” back to names...

Corey Cogdell

Corey Cogdell

Olympic Trap shooter Corey Cogdell began shooting around age 3 in her home state of Alaska, like many of us she recalls plinking at whatever safe target presented itself at a very young age. She also began hunting with her father around that time. With the help of a local 4-H shooting program, she discovered a love of shotgun shooting and honed her trap shooting skills. From there, she went on to train for Olympic style trapshooting and after just two short years of training became the only member of the USA’s 2008 Olympic women's trapshooting team. In Beijing Corey got down to business, securing Team USA’s first Olympic Medal.

While not competing for the USA Shooting Team Corey enjoys being an avid hunter and outdoors women. Growing up in Alaska Corey hunted big game but has developed a love for bird hunting and has become an avid bow hunter as well. Corey enjoys working with various youth and women’s hunting and shooting organizations to introduce new people to the outdoor sports. Corey is also a member of Cabelas Pro Staff and has appeared on numerous outdoor television shows. back to names...

Michele Bartimus-
Michele began hunting at the age of six with her parents in rural Iowa. So no stranger to gun or field, she began hunting with her first gun, a .22 rifle “on loan” from her grandfather. She learned the ethics and skills of hunting from both parents while growing up on her family’s farm in southern Iowa. Rules had to be adhered to and Mom’s rule was “Never point a play gun, stick or any object at a person or animal. Killing is never a game.” Keeping this rule in mind, she learned to love hunting and the outdoors. Now, 37 years later, Michele has hunted and traveled all over the world hunting big game nearly exclusively with a Knight black powder rifle. As a woman working in the hunting and shooting industry for 14 years, she was challenged to find a place where “no man had ever gone before.” She then found just the spot in 2000; she became the first woman to complete a World Slam on Wild Turkey in a single season with black powder and utilized her Knight TK2000 muzzleloader.

Michele has worked to introduce children, woman and even other men to the sport. She has conducted seminars and has guided hunts for Women On Target, National Shooting Sports Foundation, B.O.W., Women In The Outdoors, 4-H Shooting Sports and International Hunter Education. Michele has also served on the NRA Board of Directors and works side by side with the outdoor print and television media as an advocate for our hunting heritage and wildlife conservation, ensuring the Second Amendment right for generations to come.

Michele is the mother of two daughters Alexis and Elycse that, guess what, love to hunt too! The girls were with Michele on her first turkey hunt ever and Elycse has traveled with her mom all over the United States hunting and promoting her Miss Iowa platform of “youth in hunting and conservation.” Elycse then had to one-up her mother in 2005 by completing her World Slam on Turkey with black powder in just 18 days from start to finish!

Michele is the Director of Marketing for PRADCO Outdoor Brands Hunting Group and is based out of Decatur, AL. Michele enjoys hunting with her best friend and fiancé Branch Meanley, Founder of Green Mountain Rifle Barrels. back to names...
Gina Brunson

Gina Brunson- www.jboutdoors.com
Gina Brunson, co-host of Jon Brunson Outdoors on MOR, grew up on the water, where she and her father spent weekends fishing together. When she wasn’t fishing with her dad, Gina was pitching for her coed softball league, running track or going to gymnastics meets. She grew up in a large family; her parents fostered 250 kids by the time she turned 18. She was a tough independent kid, who always knew how to take care of herself.

Gina continued her love of fishing and camping when she met her husband Jon Brunson, 16 years ago. Gina began hunting 12 years ago. She fell in love with bow hunting and has been an avid bow hunter ever since. Gina has hunted everything from turkeys to gators, taking several record book animals, including black buck, axis deer, whitetail, gator and buffalo. Gina’s passion is chasing big whitetails. In fact, she’s taken several whitetails that have scored over 150. On the show, Gina’s competitive side comes out, as she is always trying to bag the bigger buck. Gina and Jon have a new show coming out in July 2008, that will have a different format than the traditional outdoors show.

Off screen, Gina spends time with their six children. She and Jon have taken a deep interest in instilling their outdoor values into their children. All their kids shoot a bow, even their youngest, three-year-old, Gunner. They regularly take the kids on family camping trips, including a road trip to South Dakota to hunt as a family. Gina and Jon participate regularly with Wheelin’ Sportsmen, a group dedicated to taking handicapped children on hunts. She strongly believes in getting young people involved in the sport. Gina says, “We’re just trying to get people in the outdoors to enjoy it with their families.” back to names...

Kathy Butt-
Born and raised in middle Tennessee to parents who had a great passion for the outdoors, and then, at age 19, having married a professional taxidermist and big game guide and outfitter, it’s no wonder Kathy eventually became actively involved in the outdoor industry. She and her husband, Foster, are registered New Mexico guides and outfitters and have, since the mid 80’s, run a private land elk & mule deer hunting camp each fall. Kathy first became actively involved as a freelance outdoor writer and photographer in 1987, when there were very few female outdoor writers, and takes great pride in watching the number of lady outdoor writers/photographers grow. During her writing career, Kathy has had articles and photography published in a wide variety of major outdoor publications such as Outdoor Life, Bowhunter, Bow & Arrow Hunting, Petersen’s Bowhunting, Turkey Call, Women in the Outdoors, NRA publications such as American Hunter & Woman’s Outlook, North American Hunter, Blackpowder Hunting, Mossy Oak’s Hunting the Country, Whitetail Strategies, Cabela’s Outfitter Journal, etc....

She has a great passion for hunting big game each fall with bow, muzzleloader and rifle and has been successful in taking a wide variety of big game with bow and gun. Each fall she personally hunts elk with bow, while also guiding archery and rifle elk and/or mule deer hunters during the New Mexico seasons. Each spring you’ll find her in the turkey woods watching turkeys through her viewfinder or looking down the sights of her shotgun, often times hunting them with her bow. She has a great passion for introducing youngsters and ladies to archery and archery hunting and has assisted in teaching the archery & hunting classes offered at the Becoming an Outdoors Woman Workshops in Tennessee. Kathy is so excited about the She Safari clothing line, because each and every garment is made to meet the specific physical needs of the female hunter. They're designed to be functional and stylish at the same time and this is exactly what today’s lady hunters have been waiting for! Hooray!!!

Tes Jolly- www.jollysoutdoorvisions.com

A third generation racing greyhound breeder and trainer, most of Tes Randle Jolly’s life has been spent working the family business. Tes acquired a passion for hunting and the outdoors naturally through her Native American heritage. She credits her parents, also avid hunters, with instilling in her a deep respect and appreciation for wildlife and nature. At nine years old, Tes’s enthusiastic desire to hunt with her father turned to teary-eyed disappointment upon hearing of a men’s only hunt club rule. Luckily her parents felt Tes deserved the same hunting education and opportunities as their sons. Until the rule was dropped three years later she was known to club members as  “Harvey”, disguised as a boy dressed in baggy old Army fatigues and sporting a floppy brimmed hat. For obvious reasons and with more than four decades of hunting experience, Tes takes an active role in mentoring and passing on the hunting tradition to women. For the past 12 years, Tes has served as an archery and wild turkey hunting instructor for the Alabama Becoming an Outdoors Woman program.

In 1994 Jolly entered the outdoor and hunting industry as one of the country’s few female turkey hunting guides at Alabama’s famed White Oak Plantation. Over the next several spring seasons she guided and/or met many notable outdoor manufacturers, writers, photographers, and editors including, Jim Carmichael, Jim and Sherry Crumley, Bob Robb, Brian Lovett, Dan Schmidt, Jay Langston, Bill Miller, Brad Herndon, Jerry Peterson, John Phillips, and others.

Jolly’s career in the hunting industry transitioned to full time in 1996 when she married noted outdoor videographer and Outdoor Alabama executive producer, Ron Jolly.  Over the next five years Jolly and her husband hunted, recorded, and co-produced 10 feature whitetail and turkey hunting videos for companies including Ol’ Man Treestands and Woods Wise Products. Since 2001 Tes works as a freelance writer, wildlife and outdoor photographer, offering photography services through her company, Jolly’s Outdoor Visions.

Tes is an active member of the Professional Outdoor Media Association and Southeastern Outdoor Press Association. Jolly’s work has earned wildlife and nature photography awards.  Much of her work focuses on hunting-related and wildlife photography but includes nature, and wildlife habitat and forestry management. Publishing credits include online on the Web at Realtree.com, guideoutdoors.com, and Realhuntersjournal.com. National publication credits include Turkey & Turkey Hunting, Deer & Deer Hunting, Quality Whitetails, Harris Publications, Grandview Media, Turkey Call, Get In The Game, Farming For Wildlife, Wheelin’ Sportsmen, Women In The Outdoors, and Outdoor Alabama.  Her work appears in North American Hunting Club and Krause publication’s hunting books in addition to wildlife calendars. back to names...

Ashley has been hunting for over 20 years.  Recently, she has picked up bow hunting and has harvested numerous whitetail, exotics, hogs and turkey in the last two years.   She has shared her love for the outdoors with many women in hope for them to get more involved in hunting.

Ashley’s mother’s passion for land improvement has inspired her to carry a well rounded habitat management program. In 1999 her mother proudly won The Lone Star Land Steward Award. Because of her mother’s emotional bond with the land, Ashley has assumed many of the management responsibilities; conducting prescribed burns, making lodging improvements, filling protein feeders, guiding, checking fences, and meeting with biologists to improve her whitetail herd.  During the off season she spends countless hours, driving the ranch road, watching wildlife just outside her door.

Ashley graduated from Texas Tech University. She has been involved in numerous charitable organizations, including, Armed Forces Foundation for wounded soldiers, Operation Orphans, and TWA youth hunts. She donates hunts to several causes that further cancer research; American Cancer Society and Texas Oncology Relay for Life.  She has a strong desire for helping others given that she has experienced cancer first hand in her own family. Born on an Army base in Bad Canstatt, Germany, Julie was world traveler by the age of 2. Once stateside, she moved many times, not as an Army brat but as the daughter of an FBI Special Agent. By the time the family had settled back in Virginia she had become very involved in outdoor sports: softball, track and field, mountain climbing (she joined the 4000 Club at the age of 15), and tennis. Ginger Morehead

Ginger Morehead

Ginger was raised on a working ranch in Menard, Texas.  She worked the livestock on horseback with her family.  Her family also hunted together.  The children all killed their first deer by the age of 6 and tagged out for many years after that.  When she was 9, her dad got her a Bear Polar II recurve bow so they could bow hunt together.  Later that season, Ginger killed her first buck with a bow.  She went to college on a basketball scholarship  at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas.  Her studies and basketball kept her too busy to get back home to hunt.  After she got her degree in Education, she went into the teaching/coaching profession for a few years.  She taught 9th and 10th grade English and coached girls basketball.  This was a fun time for her, but it kept her from hunting and she decided to move back closer to home.

After she got back to Menard, she was guiding on a hunting ranch when Jesse Morehead and Susan Thompson came there to hunt.  They were both world champion archers and Ginger was very interested in learning about it.  Later that same year, she went to Georgia and stayed with Susan to learn the sport.  She entered her first national tournament and finished in 5th place.  A year later, she was the first woman to win Shooter of the Year, Rookie of the Year and World Champion for the North American Bow Hunters.

Jesse & Ginger have been shooting bows most of their lives.  Jesse turned professional in 1983 and has won 12 world titles. He was listed in the 1992 Guinness Book of Records for shooting a broadhead-tipped arrow 742+ yards. Ginger started shooting competition in 1998 and turned pro in '99. Since that time, she has won 8 world titles, 10 national titles and was shooter of the year 8 times...all with Jesse as her coach.  Jesse has been on the Mathews pro-staff for 13 years and Ginger for 10.

In 2007, they bought a house and moved to Stafford, Kansas where they now reside. Their 7 yr old son Jacob is in 2nd grade there. Beginning in June, they will be back on the road for a couple of months, finishing out the tournament season. This past year they hosted a TV show, "Stayin' Safe with Jesse & Ginger" sponsored by Hunter Safety System and many other fine manufacturers.  They will host “Stayin’ Safe” again in 2008, which is scheduled to air on the Pursuit channel beginning late summer.

Kasey Peterson Kasey Peterson

Kasey Peterson has been around hunting and the outdoors her entire life. Unlike most kids growing up, most of her vacations consisted of trips to New Mexico to hunt mule deer, antelope or dove with her father. "Some of my fondest memories as a little girl are centered around hunting. I remember watching my father get ready for a hunting trip and as the neat stacks of 'gear' grew in the living room, so did the excitement in the house. It was almost better than Christmas. To this day, the smell of gunpowder and gun cleaner put a smile on my face. I had no idea how special it was for my father when I harvested my first deer, until my oldest son took his first. I don't know who was more excited, my son, me, or my father." Kasey is the youngest of three sisters and the only one that was bitten by the hunting bug. The majority of her hunting life was with rifles but since her husband introduced her to bow hunting she claims "the rifles have gotten a bit lonely in the closet". In a short time she became an extremely proficient archer and enjoys competing in 3d archery events at local and state levels. She represents companies such as Magnus Broadheads, Martin Archery, Alpine, Gold Tip and of course She Safari.

Kasey cherishes the time she spends in the outdoors with her husband and 3 beautiful children. While most of her hunting time is spent in the Hill Country of Texas chasing whitetails in the winter, turkeys in the spring and ferrel hogs year round, she also takes an annual trip to New Mexico for a week long dove hunt with her extended family. She feels blessed by all the opportunities God has given her to be able to raise her children to love the outdoors as much as she does. back to names...

Judy Rhodes

Being a Texas Girl Spring Rio Grande Turkey are my passion.  I have hunted other subspecies but they are not as agressive as the Rios.  Imagine a non-agressive Texas born Tom!  But true!  Just because it is opening day of turkey season does not indicate the turkeys will come to calls.  Weather plays a big indicator in Texas.  I did not think I would see snow and blue bonnets on the ground with turkey season...what an unusual season we have had this year.
I pride myself for taking "DIVAS" on their first turkey hunt.  We are very fortunate to have women's clothing that fit women!  I can remember my first turkey hunt and wearing my husbands hand-me-downs or shopping at the men's department for that perfect camo ensemble...okay, it never happened.  I am glad I do not have to settle for just any type of clothing!  She Safari Clothing has been a wonderful advantage to women wanting to be perfectly conceled from Mr. Tom!  Remember:  Just because you are in great camo clothing from veils to gloves...the turkey are very smart and they can still one eye you!  Turkey's see you long before you ever knew they were coming your way.  The hardest part of the turkey hunt is to remove all jewelry; any small sparkle will spook your Tom!  Best of luck...and turkey hunting is all luck!  Judy Rhodes back to names...
Eva Shockey

Eva Shockey- www.jimshockey.com

Having Jim Shockey as a father is enough to inspire anyone to love the outdoors, but it wasn't until recently that Eva caught the hunting bug and is now well on her way into the world of hunting. After playing the role of spectator while traveling with Jim on international hunts, Eva decided it was her turn to hold the gun. As a result, Eva successfully took her first three African animals this past summer in South Africa. Using a muzzleloader at 76, 130 and 160 yards respectively, Eva made three perfect shots - what a way to kick start a future of hunting. Working with Jim on his television show, 'Jim Shockey's Hunting Adventures', Eva is creating a name for herself in the industry and working hard to learn from the pros. With a business degree from university in Australia, Eva is involved with various marketing and design roles within Jim's company and plans to join the industry full-time in the coming months. Keep up to date with Eva's hunting progress by visiting Jim's blog at www.jimshockey.com
